What is ADHD?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) often affects concentration and organisational skills. It can also cause restlessness and impulsive behaviour.

As noted in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), ADHD:

is characterised by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with normal functioning or development;

is present in multiple settings (e.g., home, school, work);

symptoms interfere with, or reduce the quality of social, academic or occupational functioning.

We assess for 'Characteristics of ADHD'. This means we can identify traits and symptoms, and provide recommendations for support that will help you. Although this is not a full medical diagnosis, the report can still enable you to access support at university through Disabled Students Allowance, as well as within the workplace.
